PNG health authorities wait on $20m from government to stem tuberculosis 'emergency'

Health authorities in Papua New Guinea aware they could lose control of a tuberculosis "emergency" if they do not get the funds their government has promised them. The National Department of Health is still waiting for $20 million from the PNG government to contain the spread of drug-resistant tuberculosis. According to the WHO's country representative in PNG, the number of cases per 100,000 populations in Western Province are among the highest in the world and for this reason a very strong emergency response is required.
