PpiA antigen specific immune response is a potential biomarker for latent tuberculosis infection

In an immunoproteomic analysis, researchers found that peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase A (PpiA) protein–containing fractions induced significantly higher interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) response in Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI ) than in pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB ). Immunological characterization of recombinant PpiA protein reveals that PpiA-specific IFN-γ and IFN-γ/TNF-α ratio response are specific biomarkers for LTBI identification and they should be consider as an effective tools to develop a test specific for LTBI.
