Research reveals new insights into a key antibiotic target in the fight against TB

A key process in the bacterium that causes tuberculosis has been unraveled by researchers, potentially paving the way for new antibiotics to fight the disease. Researchers have now observed for the first time how, in Mtb, a second protein, called RbpA, helps in transcription process by binding to different parts of the DNA. So, this new finding should help in the testing of potential new drugs that inhibit RNA polymerase (an enzyme which conduct transcription) under laboratory conditions.
